It’s been a disappointing year for West Ham United. The East Londoners started the season with renewed hope. With a strong squad and a manager the fans were behind in Slaven Bilić, 2017/18 was all set to be a stellar year.
But, as so often is the way in football, things didn’t work out. The club had a horror show opening to the season, Bilić was eventually shown the door and in came David Moyes. Much to the collective groan of most of the club’s supporters.
Bilić took a fair amount of the blame himself, but the Croat will have been disappointed that his big signing of the summer, 29 year-old forward Marko Arnautović, didn’t really perform for him. That all changed when former Everton and Manchester United boss Moyes took charge, though.
The ex-Inter Milan and Stoke City man started slamming them in almost immediately. And became the first West Ham player to hit a double figure tally of goals in the league since Diafra Sakho, back in 2014/15.
For his efforts, the Austrian cleaned up at the West Ham player awards on Wednesday night, picking up the Hammer of the Year, Signing of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season trophies.
Hammers fans were quick to take to Twitter to share their thoughts on the announcement and congratulate the big man. Though a few weren’t shy in pointing out that the competition wasn’t exactly tough…
