Liverpool have been linked with a move for Mason Mount this summer and a new update has now emerged on the club’s pursuit of the player.
What’s the latest on Liverpool’s interest in Mason Mount?
According to talkSPORT’s transfer insider Alex Crook, Liverpool are increasingly confident that they will be able to sign the Chelsea midfielder.
As per the report, Crook claims that Mount’s new contract talks have hit a standstill and sources close to the player have suggested that a move to Anfield is highly likely.
It is also stated that Jurgen Klopp wants to improve his midfield options and has identified as the England international as an ideal target for the summer.
Imagine him & Jude Bellingham
It is no secret that Liverpool are an extremely strong contender to also complete a deal for Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham this summer with numerous reports linking the midfielder with a move to Merseyside.
As a result, if FSG could pull off the signing of the England midfield duo of Mount and his compatriot, it could be the much-needed youth revolution Liverpool are desperate for in the centre of the pitch.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and James Milner will all be out of contract this summer and as the business end of the season unfolds it is looking less likely that any of the aforementioned will remain, paving the way for fresh perspectives to join the successful club.
Mount – who has a reported price tag of £40m – is no stranger to Bellingham with the pair playing key roles in Gareth Southgate’s England squad over the last few years and now they could use their experience together at international level to form a formidable partnership at Anfield.
Over 23 Premier League appearances, the 24-year-old has scored three goals, registered two assists and successfully completed 54% of his dribbles, as well as averaging 1.3 key passes, 1.4 tackles, 1.4 shots on goal, and 3.6 duels won per game.
Bellingham, meanwhile, has contributed with four goals and four assists in 21 Bundesliga outings this term – making 1.1 key passes and 2.7 tackles per game – and this highlights his box-to-box talent in midfield.
The Blues star has earned high praise for his impact in the national team, with Rio Ferdinand hailing the Chelsea academy graduate on his Vibe With Five YouTube channel:
“Mount is a mad player. On and off the ball, that’s what I love about him. He gives you both sides of the game.”
“Young players watching the game, if you watch Mount, he’s efficient with it, and he can bang, but it’s the work ethic and the positions he takes up defensively.”
Jurgen Klopp could utilise Mount’s versatility in the advanced midfield role by combining it with Bellingham’s huge potential to succeed club captain Jordan Henderson in the eight role and together could revolutionise the playmaking threat Liverpool pose to their opponents.
With that being said, the signing of Mount would without doubt be a major coup for the Reds, giving the Liverpool boss a Champions League-winning young player who has bags of Premier League experience to help the side reignite their chase for trophies next season.
